What Valkyrie is

Valkyrie helps you take a bounded Safe Walk and stay connected to people you choose. You set a timer, optionally share a private live map link, check in along the way, and hold to end the walk when you arrive. Valkyrie is not emergency services. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number (911 in the US, 112 in the EU).

Who can see your map

Only people you send the link to. The link works until you end the walk (I’m safe) or cancel.

Location

During an active walk (or SOS), we use your location so people with a valid share link can see progress on the live map. Tracking is intended for that care window only — it should stop when you end the walk safely, cancel, or close the app.

On the iPhone app, Always location may be requested so updates can continue when the phone is locked. In a browser, keep the Valkyrie tab open — browsers pause GPS when you leave.

We do not use your location for advertising. We do not sell location data.

Microphone

Microphone access is optional and used only if you choose to record a short SOS voice note. We do not listen in the background during ordinary walks.

Notifications

If you enable alerts (as walker or as someone following a walk), we may send push or device notifications about walk signals such as check-ins, SOS, or walk ended. Notification text is kept minimal — we avoid putting precise coordinates on the lock screen.

Messages and links

When you share a live link through Messages or another app, you send that message. Valkyrie does not automatically text or message your contacts.

Account (optional)

Sign-in with email is optional for core walking. If you sign in, we store the email address associated with your account so you can recover access and, where relevant, link features you choose to use while signed in.

Data we store

Walk sessions, path points, signals, and notes may be stored so the live map and care history work for you and people with a valid share link. Share links are treated carefully (including hashing where required) and retention is limited after a walk is sealed.

Some notes on the map may stay on this device only unless you choose to share anonymous awareness. Shared awareness is not a public social feed and is not a crime score.

Who hosts this

The app is served by Vercel. Walk data (sessions, trail points, share grants, notes, optional SOS voice) is stored in Supabase (Postgres) so a live link can load. Push delivery may use Apple or web-push infrastructure when you turn alerts on. We do not sell this data.

How to delete data

• End or cancel a walk to stop live sharing. After you end it, the server drops that walk on a timer you set in Settings → Privacy (24 hours, 3 days, or 7 days).
• Settings → Privacy → Remove from servers now deletes the last sealed walk immediately.
• Closing the tab or app removes data stored only on this device. On the iPhone app, uninstalling also removes on-device data.
• For an optional account, or anything still on the server, send a deletion request below.

Your choices

• End or cancel a walk to stop live sharing.
• Stop using or stop sending a share link.
• Change location, microphone, and notification permission in your device or browser settings.
• Sign out if you use an optional account.

Children

Valkyrie is not directed at children under 13. Do not use the service if you are under the age required by law in your region for this type of app.

We may update this page as the product evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the latest revision.
